The concept of telling one’s personal life narrative online entirely visually began, in theory, with the development of social media. Websites like Facebook and Myspace allowed users to create their own online stories; a visual narrative of how they want to be seen by the public. But it wasn’t until 2010, when a project between two Ph.D students in San Francisco put their minds together to create Instagram – a hybrid between an instant camera and a telegram. By the time the company took off, hashtags were developed to increase the community – and that it did. Photos could soon be tagged with words and filters that attracted wider nets of crowds; instead of randomly browsing through photos, Instagram users could quickly search for whatever they were in the mood for – or get the latest updates on the latest trending brands.

The idea soared. Within two years Facebook had bought out its competition for $1 billion, and with almost as many shares. Instagram has practically surpassed Facebook with its community – available for mobile clients and Smartphone users around the world – and the numbers internationally are still climbing.

If you want to figure out how to amplify your online content and spread your brand further, then you’re going to want to cast your net as wide as you possibly can; soon enough your audience will come to you. If your brand is good, then you’ll find that your audiences will start to become personal ambassadors of your brand – sharing, posting, and re-gramming your photos to friends.
