What Is a Storyboard: How to Storyboard a Film

Making a film is a lengthy process that takes many different jobs to make it successful. One of the most important parts of film making is to create a storyboard for the movie.

A storyboard is what's used to help lay out each scene, and helps to give visual and detail to the setups and character positions for the director to get an idea of how they want the performance to be.

That said, knowing how to storyboard a film can be a challenging task if you don't really know what to do. To help you with that, we have a few quick tips for you to try to get you storyboarding like a professional. Keep reading to learn more!

How to Storyboard a Film: Starting With Small Steps
The ultimate goal of a movie is to tell one big story through the words and visuals. In order to do that, the movie has to be broken down into sections called scenes, which are then further broken down into shots.

When creating a storyboard, you need to start off small. Work on each shot (each uncut movement) that you know you want to see in your film, and find out how to make it fit with the overall story you are trying to portray.

Leave No Detail Left Unturned

Storyboards are used to give those making the movie a pretty clear idea of what they want to do or have in their shots. In many cases (or at least in the early drafts), it's just a sketch to show the general functions of the scene itself.

For you, however, a general sketch is not enough; you need to be sure you know what you want to see in the movie. Place plenty of detail into each shot, from the background and foreground to the position of the actors themselves, before moving to the next scene.

Know When to Call in the Pros

We get it. You want to do every single thing in your movie from start to finish, and that sounds cool. But you need to also know when you've reached a limit on what you're capable of doing on your own.

You only get one chance to do your film correctly, and the last thing you need is for your creative masterpiece to fall apart due to shoddy storyboarding. Calling in a professional storyboard artist to create the storyboard you want is the best way to go.

Let's Upgrade Your Marketing Game

Now that you know how to storyboard a film, you should be able to take care of things like a boss. If you still feel like you need a hand, though, you may want to look to the pros to help do the job. We're right here to help you out.

At Social 4 Retail, we make it our job to help individuals and companies just like you to succeed at what you want to do. We cover everything from social platforms, to the latest technology, to correct blogging methods, and so much more.
