What does Google's E.A.T. mean?

Since August 2018, digital marketers have been reciting the word 'E.A.T' while explaining its different meanings. This marketing term has been in the news for the lexicon of several SEO techniques for a long time. Furthermore, Google came up with its algorithm update on E.A.T in August 2018, bringing it in the spotlight for a long time.

So, let's figure out why and how it is considered an essential factor in the marketing world.

What is E.A.T?

E.A.T is - expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness. This algorithm update has come from Search Quality Rater Guidelines displayed on page no—168 of Google documents. Google released a detailed paper on this term in 2013 for the very first time. By now, you can view unconditional reports, stats, and guides on E.A.T.

Why is it important for marketing?

E.A.T. is to personalize and improve your search queries but not in all cases. Here is how.
For instance - if you are searching for 'pet dogs,' then E.A.T will display you all of them in seconds, but it may not show you pet dogs as it is not a subjective word for E.A.T to consider. This was about an unimportant situation. But in cases like searching for a medical condition or medicine for suddenly occurring body pain, E.A.T is highly important. In such circumstances, Google's E.A.T restricts Google from displaying results from any unauthorized websites and writers to avoid conveying misleading information.

How do you evaluate E.A.T?

Let's begin with its first letter - E

E represents 'Expertise' which has everything to do with thorough knowledge and skill learning about a particular subject. It is essential to judge the quality and relevancy of the content searched. It helps to evaluate the content creator's formal expressions, education, and qualification to make it more meaningful for the viewer to read and follow the content displayed. Therefore, it is considered an eminent factor of digital marketing of the current times. One must work on building better authors for E.A.T to evaluate and pass for the viewers.

Letter A -

A represents 'Authority' to judge if the viewer has landed upon a reliable link/website or not. Some of the most common KPIs of evaluating the website's authoritativeness are link quality, domain authority rank, etc.

Letter T

T is referred to as 'trustworthiness' to detect unethical websites misleading viewers. It also guides you through some exciting ways of improving the trustworthiness of your website. Some quick ways are associating the website contact details with a physical address, having a third-party entity involvement, sharing knowledge or good ideas, etc.

The final thoughts -

E.A.T is an essential part of the present time SEO techniques, especially when you wish to see some notable changes in your approach. The only way to sail through E.A.T success is to sound legit and demonstrate the values of Google in each marketing technique implemented. You may find it annoying in the initial stage, but the gradual positive results will help you keep going.
