​Tips for Targeting on Social Media

​Social media represents a valuable opportunity for businesses as it provides you with a platform by which you can target, connect with and attract customers. Social media can help you to humanize your brand and build deeper and more meaningful connections. However, success on social media is not quite as simple as signing up and creating a couple of posts. The list below outlines some of the most effective tips that you need to know when targeting social media.

​1. Get to Know Your Target Audience

Targeting is all about expanding your brand’s visibility to your target audience, so it should come as no surprise that a key to targeting on social media is getting to know your target audience. The better you know your target audience the more effectively you are able to tailor your targeting efforts. Try to make a customer persona, from all available data, to create a clear and comprehensive understanding of who your target audience is.

2. Use Facebook Ads

​If Facebook is your platform of choice, one that your target audience uses, then you should consider using Facebook ads. Facebook ads are an effective and relatively inexpensive way of targeting. The beauty of Facebook ads is that they have built-in targeting mechanisms that can be informed by real-life data.
 
You can use Facebook ads in a range of different ways. For example, you use the ‘Create Lookalike Audience’ function, which allows you to find a new audience, based on the interests and preferences of your existing followers.

3. Create Groups

​Creating interactive groups is another great way to target your social media strategy. This is because social media groups are a hugely valuable resource for businesses to learn valuable information. When it is your group, you can take control of the conversation and content, further helping you find out more about your target audience.

4. Create Language-Based Accounts

The main aim of targeting on social media is to expand your existing customer base. When it comes to expanding your customer base, there is no reason why you need to be limited by geographical constrictions. Creating several different social media accounts, in different languages, will help you to target your audience across the globe.

5. Engage With Audiences Authentically

You should make sure that the content you are posting is relevant for your target audience and appropriately for your brand. Social media offers the opportunity to show the authentic personality of your brand, so don’t be afraid to get creative, make memes, videos and images to engage authentically.
