How to Market a Niche Product: 5 Useful Tips

More than 353 million products are for sale on the Amazon platform.

But that number doesn't include items sold on eCommerce platforms like Etsy and eBay. It also doesn't include small businesses without websites.

The good news is, there's always room for a new product. Every business has something unique to offer. You just need to know how to market it.

Read on to learn how to market a niche product and build a successful business.

#1  Create Multiple Customer Personas for Your Target MarkeT

A customer persona takes the general data about your target market and turns it into a fictional person. This fictional person is your ideal customer and your marketing needs to resonate with him or her.

Your target market might be small, but no two customers are the same. That's why it's important to create multiple personas. You can create separate campaigns to appeal to different types of consumers.

The more specific your customer personas are, the more targeted your marketing will be.

#2 Know What's Special About Your Niche Product

Think about the problem your product solves. What problem made you want to start your business in the first place? The answer to this question will tell you what's unique about your product.

If your niche product is successful, copycat competitors might show up. Remember what's unique about your product and you can stay competitive.

For example, say a customer wants to buy a Mexican Rebozo, but other companies also sell these garments. The customer might choose the company with the 100% handmade garments over a competitor.

#3 Promote Your Product on the Right Marketing Channel

As a small business with a new product, you probably have a limited marketing budget. Marketing and advertising efforts can be expensive and time-consuming.

That's why it's important to know which platforms your customers use and focus on the most relevant ones.

For example, if you're trying to reach an older audience try print ads in magazines or newspapers. If you're marketing to business professionals, try LinkedIn.

#4 Listen to Customer Complaints and Compliments

When you're marketing a niche product, every customer counts. That's why you should listen to what they like and don't like about your product and the ordering experience.

If a customer complains, don't go on the offensive. Instead, you should see it as an opportunity.

Think about it: your customer is telling you exactly what they want. If you deliver on that, you'll already have at least one dedicated customer.

#5 Encourage User-Generated Content

A great way to build interest in your product is to highlight happy customers through user-generated content. Instagram is one of the best platforms for this.

You can create a hashtag and encourage your customers to share their excitement about your product. They can post a photo with your product and use your hashtag. You can share these photos on your business Instagram or even host a giveaway contest.

This is a great way to build customer relationships while also getting some free advertising.

A Niche Product Can Become a Major Business

With the right marketing strategy, you can transform a niche product from a novelty into a must-have. Remember why you created your product and let that idea guide your marketing.
