How to Create a Great Worksite Wellness Program

Making sure your employees are healthy, both physically and mentally, is crucial. Learn how to design an efficient worksite wellness program.
How are you supporting your employees' wellness? And is it impacting your business?
A workplace wellness program is worth its weight in gold - or kale. Studies show that for every dollar you invest in wellness programs, you save $3.27.

Are you ready to get started on your journey towards building a happier, healthier office culture? Here are our best tips for your employee worksite wellness program.

1. Make It Holistic

A robust worksite wellness program doesn't focus on one aspect of health. It recognizes that wellness encompasses physical, mental, and social wellness.

What does that mean for your program? It means creating a dynamic experience that touches on all the different areas of your employees' working lives. In other words, you need more than a 'steps challenge' or a yogurt bar for breakfast. Your program needs multiple parts, and its core strategy should emphasize the mind, body, spirit connection.

2. Keep It Social

Workplace wellness doesn't happen in a bubble. What's more, our social lives are a core part of our total wellness. So, it's important not to miss out on the chance to create a social dynamic to your program.

This can look different for every company, but the social aspect usually includes group activities and exercises with an emphasis on bonding, relationship building, and spending time together in ways that don't require work.

 3. Measure, Measure, Measure

How will you determine the success of your workplace wellness program? Do you know?
There are a lot of ways to measure the success of your wellness program. Some of those measurements can include:

  • Employee feedback
  • Employee utilization
  • Requests for new programs
  • Employee satisfaction
  • Reduction in costs
  • Reduction in sick days

You don't need to use all of these measurements. Choose the ones that best reflect your goals for the program.

4. Use Incentives and Rewards

Your teams are busy, and it can get in the way of their motivation to participate in your wellness program. So why not use some incentives that not only encourage participation but improve their wellbeing?

A few great examples include:

  • Additional paid time off
  • Discounted health plans
  • Contribution to a Health Savings Account
  • Free lunches
  • Gift cards

These will boost participation and ultimately improve employees' lives both at work and at home.

Don't forget that your workplace wellness program is an incentive in itself to attract new employees.

This article explains how you can use your plan to catch the eye of the top talent in your industry.

Are You Ready to Build Your Worksite Wellness Program?

A worksite wellness program can be the difference between happy, healthy, and engaged employees and a turnover rate that makes your head spin. But more importantly, supporting your team's overall health is the right thing to do.

To make your program a success, make sure you take a holistic approach that covers mind, body, and spirit wellness. And don't forget to measure your progress! After all, if you're not assessing, you're guessing.

Once your program is up and running, you need to market it well! Head over to our Marketing Integration Technologies blog for more insights.
