How The Top Retailers Do Business In-Store And Online-INFOGRAPHIC

Why Do More People Head Online?

Over the past few years, there has been a notable change in consumer behavior. People no longer solely shop in physical stores, they now also spend a lot of their shopping and browsing time on the web. This is either through online only stores, or through their favourite high street brand’s website.

The transition has not been a straightforward one. Many shops have had to close some of their physical stores as they are simply not making enough money from it for it to be viable. On the other hand, research by redbrain.com shows that some businesses are “raking in the dough” from their online sales, with Walmart enjoying an online revenue of more than $15 billion.

It is clear to see why many consumers prefer to shop online:

  • Ability to shop 24/7 - Some people, like those who work on the weekends or nights, will not be able to get to the shops while they are open, so an online store provides the perfect answer to this as customers are able to shop whenever they like.
  • Time saving - Sometimes you may need to buy something quickly but you can’t spare the time to go and get it. Customers can go online and purchase something in a matter of minutes, something that is not always possible for people who prefer physical shops.
  • Comparing prices - Shopping online saves you the bother of having to go from place to place to check if you are getting the best deal, which can be very time consuming. Online, you can just hop from web page to web page to compare the prices of the same or similar products.
  • Greater variety - When in store, you may see a product that you love, but the store doesn’t have it in your size or your favourite color. If you look online, then the chances are much higher that the shop will have what you need. Plus, the ecommerce store may have a greater variety of products that you may not have seen in the store.
  • Overseas - Some of the products that you may want may only be sold in another country, therefore, the only way that you would be able to access them is if you bought them over the internet. Without ecommerce stores, you would have only been able to buy things that were sold in your country.
