5 Factors That Make an Excellent Healthcare Provider

In today’s world, there are countless healthcare providers. This includes public hospitals, private doctor practices, urgent care clinics, labs, and more. All of these healthcare providers are under pressure to provide excellent service to patients. This is especially true in the age of technology and high patient demands.

So, is it easy to be an excellent healthcare provider? The answer is no, as it requires lots of time, effort, and resources. However, when a healthcare provider reaches above and beyond industry standards, then the benefits are endless. Patients remain loyal, high patient ratings become the norm, and countless other benefits start coming in.

With that said, here are the five factors that make an excellent healthcare provider. These tips are based on transforming patient trends and technology and improving service availability and performance – which are very important in healthcare in the busy modern day. Whether you own, operate, or work at a small healthcare practice or a growing hospital, you’ll find them to be a useful blueprint for development!

1.   Electronic Health Records Software

The modern era of healthcare has now begun. Now, healthcare providers are using software development tailored to healthcare to create electronic health record systems.

This way, it makes life much easier for doctors, nurses, and other staff who can easily access and monitor patient health records. Not to mention, it’s also a great way to turn your practice paperless, as the days of handling paper-based documents in healthcare are now coming to an end.

2.   Follow-Up Appointments

When a patient walks out of the doctor’s office, their case shouldn’t end there. A few days after, they should receive a follow-up phone call (which can be done by reception staff or one of the nurses) to see how they’re doing. If necessary, a follow-up appointment can be scheduled.

Thanks to telehealth, this eliminates the need for patients to physically come into the practice. Instead, they can speak to the doctor over the phone (after all, it’s a follow-up appointment, meaning an in-person examination likely isn’t required).

3.   Consistent Training

All employees of a healthcare provider need consistent training.

Usually, every couple of months, a practice will close and hold a staff training day. This is an excellent strategy for keeping standards high.

4.   Availability

One of the biggest complaints that the modern patient has today is that their doctor is never available.

  • Appointments are difficult to book
  • There are no weekend opening times
  • Waiting lists are incredibly long

When this is the case, it can even lead to patients switching to a different provider. Hence, it’s incredibly important for healthcare providers to be as available as possible, from long opening hours to (potential) weekend drop-ins.

5.   Communication

Lastly, an excellent healthcare provider will communicate clearly and efficiently with its patients.
For example, if a healthcare provider will be closed over the Christmas period, then they need to send a message out to their patients (via text and SMS) to let them know.

Whether it’s about prescriptions or car parking, clear messages are key!
