4 Ways to Build a Creative Social Media Team

Many small organizations may only have one social media expert managing and executing a strategy. However, larger organizations often have many employees on staff creating attention-grabbing Instagram posts and publishing engaging Facebook competitions.
If you want to enjoy great success online, you must hire talented employees and provide them with the tools and tactics to reach their potential. Here are four ways to build a creative social media team.

1. Hire Various Roles

While there is no magic employee number to running a creative social media team, there are some essential roles you should have on staff. For instance, you must hire a:

  • Social media manager – responsible for the brand’s social media strategy and team efficiency
  • Content creator – creates content for social media posts, blogs, etc.
  • Community manager – manages the brand’s engagement, comment replies, and private messages
  • Advertiser – responsible for creating and managing paid social media posts
  • Social media analyst – analyzes the brand’s social media metrics and data

Of course, one person can take on a mix of the above duties. However, you must provide them with clear responsibilities to avoid confusion and tension on the team.

2. Support Clear Communication

Clear communication will give a social media strategy the best chance of success. If your team struggles to receive answers to their questions, it can slow down a campaign and limit engagement and reach.

Email isn’t an ideal solution for time-sensitive tasks, which is why your social media team must have access to an instant messaging platform, especially if they work from home.

Before you turn to Slack, which is notoriously expensive and offers poor security features, you should browse more innovative competitors. There are some fantastic alternatives to Slack on the market. For instance, Mattermost is a customizable, affordable workplace messaging platform that can be built behind a firewall in a company’s data center or through a private, public, or hybrid cloud environment. Therefore, you’ll have full control of your team’s data, so you don’t need to worry about your social media secrets leaking out.

3. Organize a Weekly Check-In Meeting

It doesn’t matter if your social media team is working from home or the company’s office; you must organize weekly check-in meetings. It will provide an opportunity for the team to chat, share their successes, and state where they may need help from others. The meeting could eliminate problems, provide a brainstorming opportunity, and ensure each employee has a plan of action for the week ahead.

4. Provide the Best Social Media Management Tools

Make your team’s working life much easier by investing in the best social media management tools. It will allow your talented staff to manage all accounts, posts, comments, and metrics on one dashboard. It can take some of the monotony out of their role and provide more time to focus on creative ideas to increase brand engagement.

If you establish clear responsibilities, support good communication, check in on your team, and provide the best tools for a job, you could create a more efficient, creative, and passionate social media team.
